Windows Patch Management
Windows Updates
With the ever increasing threat of Cyber Security we are tightening up our Vulnerability Management Program. This will include the following items:
Windows Patch Management.
Dean Dwyer and the team have been working on our patch management platform and have been updating the schedule we set to install windows patches to be run on a more regular basis. The window to install patches will now run on Tuesdays,Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 1pm every week. This is to ensure that we install important patches as soon as they are made available, however it doesn't mean that patches will get installed every time. You shouldn't notice any difference other than you will be required to reboot your computer once the patches have been installed. You will be given two prompts that your device needs restarting and it will appear as a message in the bottom right corner and looks like this:
If you postpone the reboot, it will allow you to carry on working and prompt in a couple of hours again. After two postponements the message will be persistent and will not go away until you reboot.
Maintenance Monday
Charles Breland has been working on a global initiative to make sure all the browsers within the business are kept updated. He recommended a solution of a Maintenance Monday where IT suggests that you take 5 minutes from your day on a Monday morning to make sure you update your active browsers you have installed ( Chrome, Firefox, Edge ). We have software management in place but unfortunately it still requires users to update the browsers as there is no way for us to force update.
We will look to send out a reminder at 10am every Monday morning to check each browser and update them. The process should only take you 5/10 minutes.
We appreciate the slight inconvenience this may cause but collectively as an organisation we have a joint responsibility to ensure the company is kept safe from the growing threats in circulation.
Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
Kind regards,
